Argus Gallery is pleased to announce Umpteen, an exhibition featuring the work of Buffalo artist Ann Moody. Curated by Dana Tyrrell, Moody’s solo exhibition explores the invisible art of labor, made manifest through quilts, tapestries and wall hangings.

Moody’s intensely personal and laborious process is present within every stitch of their artwork; with materials culled from their own environment and up-cycled from second-hand stores, the artwork within Umpteen repurposes the cast-offs from fast fashion, craft rooms, and linen closets to make evident the excesses within textile production and the ubiquity of consumer culture.

By highlighting these practices and tenets of capitalist culture and harnessing them as tools of creative labor, Moody moves the conversation from union halls to the white walls of the gallery space. In so doing, the artist not only beseeches us to pause before these bespoke works of art, but also implores us to consider our place within the consumptive/productive narrative. Moody’s own labor in producing these works parallels the labor of those from whom the scraps and pieces within this work are derived.
