Eleven Twenty Projects is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Buffalo based artist Terri Katz Kasimov.

Recently acclaimed for the large scale installation at the Conventus building on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus; Katz Kasimov’s current practice centers on abstracted mixed media collage featuring two new bodies of works, Roots/Routes and Meanderings.

These new works imbue a controlled randomness, arbitrary or ambiguous to the casual eye, but are in fact pre-planned and allegorical. The collages are meticulously constructed with layers of discarded remnants of the artist’s prior works. As Katz Kasimov describes, “past drawings and saved papers are ripped, cut and incorporated into new ones”. Each fragment of paper represents a point in time, and the marks and compositional flow of each piece carry an immediate, organic energy.

This process of birth and rebirth has been a persistent subject throughout Katz Kasimov’s evolution as an artist. Recently, by exploring the combinations of recycled remnants from the past, the outgrowth from this amalgamation exudes a sense of meditation and unburdening. Katz Kasimov has created her own visual language, rooted firmly in the formal elements of line, form shape, and color, which was passed on by the numerous accomplished painters with whom she has studied.

Terri Katz Kasimov is an extolled Buffalo artist whose work is in private, corporate, and museum collections around the world. Katz Kasimov is a visual artist with studios in Buffalo, NY and Kiawah Island, SC. She received her B.F.A. from The Ohio State University and her M.F.A. from SUNY Buffalo, where she later taught.
